Roma Community Care was found by the Multi-faith Centre with the aim of being an advocacy organisation that gives the Roma and Eastern European community a voice.

Manushe Women's Group

A women's group was set up to support the local Roma women in Derby. Activities such as arts and crafts and cookery took place, along with practical support.

Roma Community Care supported the Roma Christian group to put on a family fun day for the local communities, with games, music and informative stalls.

An information day was held at Pear Tree Infant School. Representatives from the police, fire service and Sure Start to name but a few were present.

THE CLUB is established

THE CLUB was set up in response to several issues in the local Pear Tree area. With the help of other groups THE CLUB has grown in its success and is still continuing today.

Mikulas Event

The Roma community celebrated Mikulas at the Indian Community Centre. There was music, Christmas play, gifts, face painting, and even a visit from St. Mikulas.

Gypsy Council meeting

The Multi-Faith Centre, Europe Roma Network UK (ERN) and Roma Community Care (RCC) Derby, hosted a joint national meeting of the Europe Roma Network and Gypsy Council at the Multi-Faith Centre.

24 representatives from 5 national groups were represented, together with ERN members from Margate, Halifax, Derby, Birmingham and London. Members of ERN (UK), IRU, ERTF, ERGO, Dale Farm Housing Association and Roma React UK joined the Gypsy Council members to discuss celebrations and actions for Roma Nation day in April. Part of which includes the remembrance of over 500,000 Roma who died in the Holocaust in WWII.

A letter was delivered to David Cameron by Roma Community Care with the support of MP Jeremy Corbyn campaigning for Roma rights and to adopt a national Roma integration strategy.

Roma advocate Michal Daduc participated in the 70th anniversary of the Roma genocide ceremony in Auschwitz, whilst Roma Community Care members took part in the London commemoration ceremony.

Roma Community Care hosted the Slovak embassy's visit to Derby to support Slovak citizens with passports, marriage certificates etc. This was a two day event that took place at the Mandela Centre 28th-29th October 2014.
