Michal Daniel

Michal Daniel

Michal came from the Czech Republic to Derby in 2003 with his family. He started school and continued with his education in Derby College and gained and variety of qualifications. After this he started working for a local industrial company but had discovered the work that Roma Community Care were doing and knew he wanted to be a part of it. He started volunteering as a youth worker and supported the team in their work. After several months he was offered a position within the organisation and since then his roles and responsibilities have grown. He now does the youth sessions, advocacy work and campaigning and has completed his Level 3 diploma in Youth Work. He is excited to develop his skills and knowledge as Roma Community Care continues to grow and become an inspirational Roma led grassroots organisation.

Margita Cechova - Advocacy Worker

Margita Cechova

Margita is originally from Slovakia and has been in England with her family for over 10 years now. She has 3 children and is proud to be Roma. She has worked for Roma Community Care since 2012.

Margita is an advocacy worker and an experienced and active member of the Roma community. Her main role is to deal with clients concerns such as housing issues, filling in forms, making phone calls, translation and also to educate Roma, especially new arrivals, on how the system works, primarily regarding schools, doctors, and housing.

Joseph Daniel

Joseph Daniel

Joseph came in to the UK in 2003 from the Czech Republic. He studied at Pear Tree Junior School in Derby and after completing his studies went to work at a company called Colours LTD where he worked as a painter for several months. Whilst working at this company he heard about Roma Community Care and the work it was doing to help people in Derby and knew he wanted to be a part of it. He joined Roma Community Care in November 2016 as an Advocacy Worker and enjoys supporting his local community.

Ruth Richardson

Ruth Richardson

Ruth joined the team in November 2015 as Youth Work Manager. In March 2017 Ruth took on the role of Acting Director and is now the organisations strategic lead. Before officially joining the Multi-Faith Centre and Roma Community Care, Ruth had been involved through the Religious Diversity and Anti-Discrimination (RDAD), the Overcoming Islamaphobia and Overcoming Anti-Semitism training as well as the Inter-faith Youth Forum. In addition to this she supported the development of the City wide Youth Workers Forum and has overseen the delivery of the Level 3 Diploma in Youth Work. Ruth has over ten years’ experience working in youth and community, including statutory services and the voluntary sector. Ruth is a trustee for the Children and Young People’s Network (CYPN) Derby and a co trainer for the Independent Working Class Education (IWCE) Network. Ruth is very interested in Human Rights/ Child Rights and how they can be implemented at a community level that positively impacts on people’s lives. It is to these ends that she remains a committed and passionate youth and community worker.

Joanna Thornewill

Joanna Thornewill

Jo joined the Multi-Faith Centre in August 2004 when it moved from the University facilities to the new Centre.  Jo has been involved in the development of Roma Community Care since it was just an idea. In addition to her managing the Multi-Faith Centre and its finance, bookings and lettings she also manages the Roma Community Care office and supports with all its endeavours, including youth work.

Lorraine Stokes

Lorraine Stokes

Lorraine joined the team in June 2014 after being a part of the Community Organising programme hosted by the Multi-Faith Centre. Since June she has been working in communications, co-ordinating digital media, databases, marketing, PR and support with additional events and training. Lorraine also leads on the Multi-Faith Centre 'Survive and Thrive' project supporting refugees and asylum seekers in Derby.
